A cube is a regular polyhedron whose every face is a square. All edges of a cube are equal.
A cube is a special case of a parallelepiped and a prism.
Formula
The volume of a cube is its edge cubed ⇒ V = a3
Example
A cubic tank with a 50 cm edge: V = 50³ = 125,000 cm³ = 125 L. In metres: 0.5³ = 0.125 m³.
Units
The volume comes out in cubic units of the dimensions you enter: centimetres give cm³, metres give m³. Use the same unit for all dimensions. Conversion: 1 L = 1 dm³ = 1000 cm³, 1 m³ = 1000 L, 1 mL = 1 cm³.
Good to know
- Doubling the edge makes the volume 8 times larger (2³).
- The edge from a known volume is the cube root: 1000 L (1 m³) means a 1 m edge.
Where it is used
- Cubic tanks, IBC totes (about 1000 L).
- Concrete blocks and test cubes for concrete strength (10×10×10 and 15×15×15 cm samples).
- Packaging and boxes, ice cubes, cubic metres of firewood and cargo.
How to use
Enter the dimensions (decimals with a dot or comma) and press “Calculate”. You get the formula with your numbers and the result with a copy button, and the 3D model is redrawn to your dimensions.
