A ball (sphere) is a solid bounded by a surface whose points are all at the same distance from the centre. That distance is the radius.
Formula
The volume of a ball is V = 4 / 3 * π * R3, where π = 3.141592
Example
A ball of radius 10 cm (diameter 20 cm): V = 4/3 × 3.141592 × 10³ ≈ 4,188.79 cm³ ≈ 4.19 L.
Units
The volume comes out in cubic units of the dimensions you enter: centimetres give cm³, metres give m³. Use the same unit for all dimensions. Conversion: 1 L = 1 dm³ = 1000 cm³, 1 m³ = 1000 L, 1 mL = 1 cm³.
Good to know
- From the diameter:
V = π × D³ / 6. - A ball fills ≈ 52.4% of its circumscribed cube.
- Twice the radius means 8 times the volume.
Where it is used
- Spherical gas tanks, balloons, buoys.
- Balls, bearings, shot, droplets and bubbles in physics and chemistry.
- Material for 3D-printed spheres, mass from density (volume × density).
How to use
Enter the dimensions (decimals with a dot or comma) and press “Calculate”. You get the formula with your numbers and the result with a copy button, and the 3D model is redrawn to your dimensions.
