The VAT calculator computes value added tax online: add VAT to a net amount or extract it from an amount that already includes it. Fill in any field (“Amount excl. VAT”, “VAT” or “Amount incl. VAT”) and set the rate; the other values are calculated automatically.
VAT rates in Russia
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 20% | standard rate: most goods, works and services (since 2019, 18% before) |
| 10% | some foods, children's goods, medicines and medical devices, books and periodicals |
| 0% | exports, international transport and some other operations |
The page defaults to 18%, as on the old version of the site. Set the rate you need in the field.
Formulas
- Add VAT (net amount known):
VAT = Amount × Rate / 100,Gross = Amount × (1 + Rate / 100). - Extract VAT (gross amount known):
VAT = Gross × Rate / (100 + Rate),Net = Gross − VAT.
A common mistake is to extract VAT by multiplying the gross by 20%: from 1,200 that gives 240 instead of the correct 200.
Examples
| Task | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Add 20% to 1,000 | 1,000 × 20 / 100 | VAT 200, gross 1,200 |
| Extract 20% from 1,200 | 1,200 × 20 / 120 | VAT 200, net 1,000 |
| Extract 10% from 550 | 550 × 10 / 110 | VAT 50, net 500 |
| Extract 18% from 1,180 | 1,180 × 18 / 118 | VAT 180, net 1,000 |
